Support the SPCA: Have A Heart Party

We are proud to help the eighth annual Have a Heart Party at the SPCA. The event, to be held on February 12 at 7:00 pm, will help to raise funds and awareness for the Richmond SPCA. We hope that our donation to the silent auction will help support the more than 3,000 homeless animals cared for annually at the Richmond SPCA and will assist the organization in providing the best care possible to orphaned pets awaiting permanent homes. All babies, human or furry, deserve a second chance at a wonderful life in a loving home.

Helping Haiti

One of our dreams when opening Posh Belly was to help mothers-to-be find comfortable, fashionable clothing at a reasonable price. Another was to give moms-to-be as much support as possible during such an exciting time in their lives. We host events, such as our MaterniTEA Parties to give back to our clients and to help make pregnancy a positive experience. We also sponsor various events from the March of Dimes Chef's Auction to the SPCA's Have a Heart Benefit to help others in the greater Richmond area. But now, it is not only time to give back to our community, but to those suffering around the globe, such as the survivors of the Haiti Earthquake.

It is our honor to participate in fundraising efforts on behalf of Haiti. Between now until February 15th, we hope to sell out of all long-sleeve t-shirts. 15% of all long-sleeve t-shirt proceeds will be donated to the relief efforts in Haiti. Please help us help those in need and spread the word!

A few people have asked us about our MaternTEA that we sell in the store. Our signature teas are made by Herban Avenues and are a great beverage option for both moms and moms-to-be.

Pre-Natal Materni-TEA
Adapted from a recipe by Nancy Giglio (nurse midwife). Contains raspberry fruit and leaf, alfalfa, oatstraw, nettles, rosehips, lemon balm, spearmint, hibiscus, and orange peel. Good nutrition (calcium, iron, vitamin B and C, trace minerals) to keep mom well. This tea eases stomach issues and tones the uterus lining. A toned uterus lining makes for an easier delivery and recover.
Recipe idea: mix it with cranberry/raspberry juice and drink cold!

Post-Natal Materni-TEA
Lactation promoter/anti-flatulent for mom and baby. Contains nettles (which replenishes lost iron), raspberry leaf (uterine tonic), fennel (anti-flatulent and estrogen booster), fenugreek (lactation promoter), and peppermint (great tasting digestive aid). Best served as a hot tea. So soothing!

Why drink herbal tea?

We just wanted to say thanks - thanks to those of you who attended our September Tea, thanks to Dr. Stephen Bendheim for speaking, and thanks to our incredible sponsors. We are so proud to offer this free event each trimester and to give back to our customers, both old and new. This Tea's focus was on pre-natal testing and also offered an opportunity for expectant mothers to ask questions about anything they wanted to discuss not included in the presentation. In addition to our custom-made organic prenatal tea and delicious hors d'oeuvres provided by local caterers and bakeries, each guest was given an opportunity to shop during our extended hours and to take advantage of a special discount for just our Tea participants. Lastly, each guest was given a special gift bag that included over $700 worth of tangible goods, samples, coupons, and discounts. The gift bags plus the raffle door prizes total approximately $20,000 of give-aways! That's right, twenty thousand dollars!

We had a great time last night and hope our guests did too. Thanks again to everyone for making our September Tea another wonderful success.

Our First Birthday

It's hard to believe that this weekend marks our first birthday. Some days, it feels like we've just opened. But we have learned a lot and have made many new friends over the past 12 months. Family Fun Day to Support ASK

Nothing can prepare you for the words “your child has cancer.” It’s not natural, it’s not fair, but it is real. Children do get cancer and a family’s life is turned upside down. The numbers add up so quickly – about 500 children each month are treated at the ASK Pediatric Hematology/Oncology clinic in Richmond, VA. Each one of them, along with their families, needs help dealing with the complex and stressful issues of cancer treatment. Fortunately, a network of support is already waiting for them through ASK.

We are pleased to be a proud sponsor of Family Fun Day. Tots On the Go has put together a wonderful event for Saturday, September 26th. There will be activities for kids, a silent auction, and proceeds will benefit ASK. The mission of ASK is “Making Life Better for Children with Cancer.” What began as a few small changes slowly grew into an extraordinary organization that has expanded its programs and services to meet the needs of children and families. ASK steps in at the time of diagnosis to help the family deal with the non-clinical side of what’s happening. While the hospital and medical staff focus on the treatment, ASK works to provide the children and their families with the quality-of-life support they need.

At Posh Belly, we really strive to offer the best service for expecting mothers and recently anointed moms in town. In order to serve our customers, we have created a Facebook page to keep everyone up to date about our products, our services, and our in-store events.

Before the store and before teaching, I used to work for an up-and-coming Virginia band. At the time, their shows were free and I had to drag my friends to see them. Eventually, they became more and more popular with the support of dedicated fans. Word spread from person to person; people brought their friends and eventually the band's fan base grew so big that they could no longer play at small clubs. Now, thanks to the support of their fans, they pack giant stadiums. You may have heard of them... the Dave Matthews Band. They credit their success to their fans and we, at Posh Belly, feel the same. We love our current fan group and appreciate you spreading the word about the boutique. Likewise, we encourage everyone else to become a fan to help spread the word about our locally owned maternity and baby boutique. As a fan, you will be updated on a regular basis about all things Posh Belly, including special events and promotions.

the twins have arrived

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the well wishes. The boys were born on Sunday, June 7th and are doing great. It's been an interesting few weeks and I hope to head back to work, perhaps with twins in hand, sometime soon. We just wanted to thank all of our sponsors for helping make our second MaterniTEA party such a great success. With approximately 30 guests in attendance, we gathered to hear guest speaker Jenny Simpson discuss what happens in the first few weeks of life after birth. Guests were also pampered with free massages, delicious food, and lots of give-aways worth more than $6000! That's right, six thousand dollars in gifts and discounts. In addition, we were happy to extend a special discount in the store to all of our guests and were happy to see everyone leave with bags of goods and goodies!

Posh Belly is pleased to announce our first ever Maternitea Party to be held Tuesday , March 24th at the boutique. Offered each trimester, tea parties will be fun and informative gatherings offered to our customers, while giving them a chance to get together with other moms and moms-to-be. Attendees will hear from local expert speakers and be pampered with yummy food, gifts, samples, complimentary massages, and more. The parties are free and open to anyone interested in attending. Space is limited, however, so call to reserve your seat today (740-POSH).

Each tea party will feature local expert guest speakers. Topics will vary and shall include newborn nuances, how to choose the best childcare for your family, the benefits and methods of infant massage, and finding a friendly pediatrician, just to name a few! Our first guest speaker is Richmond's own super doula, Kathy Stewart, who will discuss birth plans and beyond. In addition, to the lecture series, we will offer a special shopping hour to our guests with discounts on the total purchase, in addition to huge markdowns on our remaining fall and winter merchandise. And no party would be complete without door prizes and gift bags for all.

In order to shower our guests with some of our favorite products, we have teamed up with many of our local and national vendors. Gifts and giveaways include free portrait sitting sessions, baby clothes and layette, organic skincare products, rattles, bibs and burp cloths, organizers, diaper bag tags, and much, much more. Winter Clearance

You know what amazes me? Spring starts shipping as early as December. Maybe it's because Maternity fashion wants to stay in step with regular women's fashion; maybe it's to give us hope of warmer days; or maybe it is because most of the maternity manufacturers are located in California and Florida where such clothing would be needed and appropriate. It makes it tough though to find a good sweater or pair of cords come March when we still might see snow (granted it would just be a flurry these days, but it really used to snow inches in Richmond in March when I was a kid). Why am I talking about shipping dates? Well, spring is arriving and so are the clothes. We are starting to receive new items for mom and baby every day! So in order to make room, it is time for us to clear out all of our remaining winter stock. If you haven't had a chance to take advantage of our recent sales, now is the time. It's hard to believe that we've been open more than two months already! We had hoped to post weekly, but realized quickly that the store keeps us very busy (which is a good thing!). In spite of the challenging state of our economy, we've had a great beginning and wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for supporting us and for letting us be a part of such an important time in your lives.

In the past two months, we have placed many re-orders for certain staples in an expecting mother's wardrobe. Some products are just no-brainers - from great designer jeans, to the perfect black dress, to organic skincare. There are, however, some pieces which have sold well, but won't be re-ordered. We feel strongly about the unique nature of our collection and want to be sure our customer leaves knowing she won't run into another woman dressed in the same exact outfit! We have learned a lot too and added several new lines to our collection to accomodate the requests of our customers. If you haven't been in the store in a while, please come back as we continue to get new items weekly and don't want you to miss out!

With the holidays quickly approaching, we have planned for another casual get together this weekend. Our holiday open house will be this Sunday (December 7th) from 1-4pm. We will provide snacks and good company while you enjoy the many discounts that we are offering. From holiday items, to dresses, to casual t-shirts, to children's knits, many items will be on sale. Our goal is to offer you a chance to pick up that one thing you've wanted, but haven't purchased yet. Better yet, send your husband to pick up the perfect holiday gift for you and your baby-to-be!We hope all is well and look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Words cannot express how excited we are about the grand opening of the store! Please join us at the open house on Friday, September 19th from 5-8 pm. We have lots of wonderful merchandise and are just looking forward to working with you during such an exciting time in your life.

On a personal note, we would like to thank everyone who has helped make this dream a reality. Without the support of our family and friends, Posh Belly would remain in utero much longer than the typical 9 months!
